Generally, if you are using a Duct Sizing Chart or calculator (such as the Trane Ductulator), size the re- turn ducts for 0.05 inches/100 ft (0.40 Pa/m) based on the expected airflow through that return air duct. The total sum of air from all the returns should be at least 250 CFM/nominal ton (33 l/s per-kW).

Can paint thinner cause death?

(Example: 4 (ton unit) x 144 square inches = 576 squared. The square root of 576 is 24. Therefore, your return air duct and grill size will be 24 by 24 inches.)

Thereof, How many CFM is a ton of return?

In high heat load conditions or for heat pumps, 500 CFM per ton is recommended. The higher CFM is required to remove the sensible heat from the environment. However, if you have an environment that has high humidity then 350 CFM per ton is better.

Also to know is, How many CFM is a 2 ton unit? 800 cfm

Subsequently, question is, How many square feet does a 2 ton AC cool? Air conditioners that are 1.5 tons can cool off a space that is 600-900 square feet. Units that are 2 tons can cool off 901-1200 square feet spaces. Units that are 2.5 tons can cool off 1201-1500 square feet, etc.

Also, Should return duct be larger than supply?

Return ducts are always larger than supply trunks. 3. Supply air and return air is always equal because its a closed loop system to the equipment.

“The conditioned air quantity for air conditioning should be about 400 CFM per ton of cooling capacity.”

How many tons of AC do I need per square foot?

0.0016 tons

How many CFM is a 5 ton unit?

In our opening statement we quoted a rule-of-thumb about air conditioning requiring 400 CFM per ton. This value is usually the basis for rating self-contained air conditioners. Thus, we have a 2-ton unit handling 800 CFM, a 3-ton 1,200, a 5-ton 2,000, a 10-ton 4,000, etc.

How many CFM is a 3 ton unit?

The airflow is measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM). 350 to 400 CFM per ton of cooling is required for proper air conditioning system operation. For example, if you are checking a 3 ton system, the airflow required is between 1050 and 1200 CFM.

Where should I put my return and supply ducts?

Supply air from furnaces and air conditioners should be on outside walls. The return air vent openings need to be on the opposite side of the room so the conditioned air is pulled across the room. If the supply ducts are in the floor, then the return air should be located up high. This pulls the air across your body.

How big of a house will a 3 ton AC unit cool?

How many CFM are in a ton?

400 CFM

What size return do I need for a 3 ton AC unit?

3 ton unit. Here’s some information on basic duct sizing. Remember you’ll want ~400 CFM per ton. The lowest I’d go is 350 per ton for very humid conditions.

What size AC do I need for a 2000 square foot home?

If your home is 2000 square feet, you can calculate your HVAC needs the same as you would for a 1600 square foot home. Assuming one ton of cooling capacity can cool 400 square feet of your home, you’ll need about 5.0 tons of air conditioning capacity. Multiply this by 12,000 BTUs, and you’ll get 60,000 BTUs.
