A terrarium is a collection of small decorative plants They grow in a closed environment. The container must be transparent and must have a large opening to allow access to indoor plants.

If you want to make one, you will need the following materials:

  • Glass boat, reuse one, surely you have a lot on hand.
  • Scotch tape.
  • Small rocks.
  • Activated carbon.
  • Land.
  • Medium size stones to decorate.

All these elements can be obtained easily, use everything you can recycled.

How to make a terrarium?

The procedure described is useful for a horizontal or vertical terrarium.

  1. Wash the boat and the stones to avoid mushroom proliferation.
  2. Once dry, place masking tape in the mouth of the boat to prevent dirt from escaping. If you decide to give vertical orientation, you can skip this step.
  3. Place a thin layer of activated carbon. It will keep the water fresh and fight any bacterial growth in your terrarium.
  4. At the bottom of the boat are placed small stones, which will serve as drainage.
  5. Place a first layer of soil, trying to cover the entire terrarium.
  6. Put the seedlings in the arrangement that we consider most appropriate. It is recommended to use those that need a high degree of humidity.
  7. Once the plants are placed, their roots are covered with soil. You can evaluate if you place moss, since it is a floor conditioner and beautifies the terrarium. Do not take nature moss.
  8. The decoration can be completed by placing stones of different sizes.
  9. Water water with an atomizer two or three times, no more. This will allow to nourish the plant, which will recycle it through breathing. Once this step is completed, the terrarium can be closed.
  10. You can place a decorative figure to highlight the beauty of the DIY piece.

It is important that you check humidity levels. In the first days the plant is acclimatizing, but after a week you must remove the excess so that the plant does not die. You can wipe the glass to remove it. If there is excess moisture, fungi may also appear.

When summer comes, avoid placing it in an area where you have direct sun. The glass absorbs heat, can increase the temperature a lot and kill the plants.
