How to make a nativity scene with recycled material

A originality is an element that cannot be missing in Christmas. Especially if there are small children at home. A fun way to entertain the youngest in the house is to replace the classic Christmas crib purchased by a nativity scene made entirely of recycled materials. In the following article of aComo, we show you how to make a nativity scene out of recycled materials.

Steps to follow:

1

To create a nativity scene you can use all kinds of recycled materialfrom tin cans, cork stoppers, coke cans, milk cartons or, for example, plasticine. If you don’t have any of the above materials at home, don’t worry, it’s always possible to look for something similar to make the nativity scene. It will certainly look great.

2

Let’s start with the crib entrance. You must use sticks at home. Take some and glue to fix them and arrange them like a little house. Reinforce them at the back and glue them one by one until they are a consistent figure and remain standing like a roof. When you have the entrance to the crib, cover it with strips of newsprint and leave an opening to place the figures of the crib.

3

Children always have plasticine at home, bits of different leftovers accumulated and you never really know what to do with them. In this case, we’ll use them for the figures in the nativity scene. That is, the child Jesus, the Virgin, Saint Joseph, the ox, the cow and the angel. It is not necessary for the facial features of the figures to be very detailed. For example, the virgin may have a flesh-coloured head, a blue mantle and a white body or tunic. The same can be done with St. Joseph, who can be covered with a brown cloak and the child Jesus would go in white.

4

The next step is to decorate the nativity scene. To simulate the river, use tinfoil. The advantage of this type of paper is that it wrinkles easily so it can simulate the waves of the river and thus provide greater realism to the nativity scene.

By the river, put the trees. If you have cork stoppers at home, these can represent the trunk, while the leaves can be made with green plasticine. This will make a very colorful and dynamic forest.

6

Following the trend of cork stoppers, we will also use them for the rest of the animals of the nativity scene. For sheep, use the cork stoppers for the trunk and cover them with cotton. On the other hand, for the camels of the three wizard kings you can use toothpicks for the paws and neck and to join the head to the trunk, which will be formed by cork stoppers.
